Joan Jensen Haupricht Endowment Fund

Honoring the Love of His Life, Ensuring Her Memory Lives On

Paul Haupricht and his wife Joan Jensen Haupricht were grateful for the compassionate care that she received as she battled ovarian cancer. Joan passed away in 1997, but Paul’s gift to establish the Joan Jensen Haupricht Endowment Fund in honor of the love of his life ensures that her memory lives on. Earnings on the endowment fund are used to maintain an oncology patient library, provide scholarship for the inpatient oncology staff and educational funds for direct care colleagues in the oncology unit.

Over the years, over fifty McLaren Oncology Unit staff have received scholarships to further their education. Paul loved to hear about the progress of the scholarship recipients each year and considered them ‘his’ students. From nursing degrees to certification, Paul was committed to meeting the educational needs of the caregivers who made such an impact on Joan’s last days.

This work was so important to him that Paul named McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation as a beneficiary of his Trust. When Paul passed away in 2017, the gift from his estate was used to build the Joan Jensen Haupricht Endowment Fund. The additional support will continue to help staff build their careers at McLaren Northern Michigan, serving our patients and our community.

“We are deeply grateful to Mr. Paul Haupricht for establishing this permanent legacy to benefit our staff, our patients and their families.”
