Caro, MI – McLaren Caro Region (MCR) is pleased to announce that their Laboratory Department has received their Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification from the State of Michigan. Inspectors from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) came onsite and spent an entire day interviewing the department, reviewing policies and procedures, verifying quality controls, and making sure all employees are up-to-date on education and credentials.
The objective of the CLIA program is to ensure quality laboratory testing and the MCR lab continues to meet the high standards for licensure. “Attaining CLIA certification demonstrates to our patients that our laboratory is consistently performing in a safe and secure environment. I have to give a lot of credit to our staff for going above and beyond every day and taking pride in their workplace,” said Heather Hennessey, Laboratory Manager at MCR.
Mandated by the Code of Federal Regulations, CMS manages and conducts inspections of all CLIA laboratories. In total, CLIA covers approximately 260,000 laboratory entities. The regulation was enacted to ensure consistent, accurate, and reliable clinical test result reporting from laboratories across the country used for the diagnosis, treatment, and/or prognosis of disease.
