McLaren Central Michigan Awards Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarship

McLaren Central Michigan, part of statewide McLaren Health Care, has awarded its annual Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarship to Miranda Powell, a former medical assistant at one of the hospital’s outpatient clinics who is working to advance her career.

Established upon the request of Louise Williams, a longtime McLaren Central Michigan volunteer, the scholarship aids in recipients’ education toward an eventual or continuing career in health care.

For seven years, Powell had been a medical assistant for McLaren Central Michigan interventional radiologist Dr. Rami Safadi in the McLaren Central – Medical Arts Building, though her aspirations are to become a physician assistant and provide direct patient care in interventional radiology or general surgery specialty.

She is enrolled in the Central Michigan University physician assistant program and is scheduled to begin classes this semester.

“A career in health care is choosing to make a positive impact on people’s lives,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “The Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarship is one of our best traditions, recognizing the selfless qualities of its recipients, and we wish all recipients well in their pursuits.”

A raised in the region, Powell’s aim is to remain in the area and make it her ‘forever home’ upon her graduation as she provides for her hometown.

Applicants for the Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarship must be enrolled in an accredited college or graduate program or involved with their community or its hospital and maintain a high grade-point average. Applications are reviewed and selected by a hospital committee and awarded the scholarship money provided through the estate of Louise Williams.
