McLaren Central Michigan expands emergency services leadership

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—McLaren Central Michigan, the leading Mount Pleasant-based healthcare provider routinely recognized for its safety and quality, has expanded its emergency services leadership with the appointment of an emergency department manager and trauma and stroke program coordinator, respectively.

Kelly Hartwell, BSN, RN, as emergency department manager of patient care services will supervise, oversee and direct the care of all patients receiving treatment within the Mount Pleasant ER. As leader, she and her team will work with providers to ensure patients are administered that care in a safe environment, increasing the chances of achieving an enhanced outcome.

With more than 25 years of experience in medicine, Hartwell spent the past 17 years in clinical leadership positions, most recently with McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, where her experienced ranged from managing a cardiac unit to overseeing acute care services, such as trauma, neurology, and cardiac catheterization lab.

Tim Barnes, RN, BSN, CEN, also joins the emergency services team, leading the trauma and stroke programs as its coordinator, in which he will lead patients through the process of their potentially lifesaving care, and that this care is prepared and ready to treat patients at a moment’s notice.

A native of Pennsylvania, Barnes began his medical career in emergency services more than 28 years ago, when he started in the emergency medical services while still in high school, ultimately becoming an emergency medical technician.

Together, Hartwell and Barnes will work to maintain McLaren Central Michigan’s certification as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital from The Joint Commission — a hospital certification body — and expand trauma services.

It’s also their shared goal to increase public education through outreach activities covering Stop The Bleed trauma techniques and proper car seat safety, among others.
