McLaren Central Michigan hosting breast cancer screening for uninsured women

McLaren Central Michigan, part of McLaren Health Care and the leading health care provider to Isabella County and surrounding region, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is hosting a free event to provide uninsured women with a routine breast screening to catch the early signs of breast cancer.

From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 13, women 40 years and older who do not have insurance and have not had a mammogram in the past year can receive a clinical breast exam and a mammogram at no cost to them.

Provided through McLaren Central Michigan – Mammography, the hospital’s breast center located on its main campus, the event can accommodate 13 women and is made possible through the hospital’s Circle of Hope fund.

“In terms of early detection for breast cancer, mammograms have long been the standard,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “We see our role in the community as being one of service, and we’re grateful to be in the position to help women in our community by increasing access to this potentially lifesaving screening for those who can most benefit from it.”

Primary care providers Stephanie Leslie, FNP, and Melissa Duchene, NP, will conduct the clinical exams before receiving a mammogram.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends women with an average risk of breast cancer begin breast cancer screenings at age 40, which can include mammograms. All women are encouraged to talk to their primary care provider to obtain a screening recommendation.

McLaren Central Michigan – Mammography is located through the West Entrance of McLaren Central Michigan (1221 South Drive in Mount Pleasant).

Appointments for the event are required and can be made by calling (989) 779-5606.
