McLaren Central Michigan Invests $2 Million to Expand, Enhance Diagnostic Imaging

McLaren Central Michigan, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and the leading Isabella County health care provider, has invested nearly $2 million to expand and enhance its diagnostic imaging services.

The multimillion-dollar investment adds an advanced MRI unit and a DEXA bone density scanner, significantly reducing procedure wait times while increasing clinicians’ diagnostic precision through higher-quality scans, supporting providers’ early disease detection capabilities and critical care decisions.

A frequently used imaging modality, MRIs are decisive in the diagnosis of vascular, musculoskeletal, neurological, and other common conditions affecting the internal organs.

“Our commitment is to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, and for the vast majority of conditions, that process begins with diagnostic imaging,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “Investing in our imaging department ensures our team has the latest technology at their disposal, enhancing our providers’ ability to efficiently detect and diagnose diseases, benefiting the care patients receive, and supporting the outcome of that care and their overall experience.”

In addition to its many clinical benefits, the new MRI unit is able to perform exams quicker — increasing the department’s capacity — while also calmly guiding patients through the procedure via an immersive audio-visual experience, and a wider opening allows for the accommodation of patients of varying ages, sizes, and physical conditions.

The DEXA bone density unit, a low-dose X-ray able to measure bone mineral density, is crucial to providers’ ability to diagnose early bone loss, often leading to osteoporosis. Largely recommended for men and women over the age of 65, low bone density often does not present with symptoms until a fracture occurs.

Tracking patients’ bone density through scans allows their providers to begin a treatment plan and adjust if needed.
