McLaren Central Michigan Verified as Isabella County’s First Trauma Center

McLaren Central Michigan, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and Isabella’s leading health care provider, has earned verification from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to become the county’s first trauma center.

As a Level IV trauma center, hospital emergency physicians, surgeons, and care teams have demonstrated that they have met rigorous — yet essential — national standards for trauma care, including rapid assessment, stabilization, and transfer of patients to higher-level trauma centers when necessary.

Attaining verification as Isabella County’s first trauma center further established McLaren Central Michigan’s dedication to ensuring around-the-clock readiness for patients in need of timely care.

“Achieving Level IV Trauma Center verification is an incredible milestone for not only our hospital but also for Mount Pleasant and the communities of Isabella County,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “Truly an achievement, this reflects our dedication and enhances our region's ability to respond to emergencies, and we are incredibly grateful to be in this position and thankful to those who made it possible.”

Members of the community may require an emergency trauma center after having experienced a severe- or potentially life-threatening injury, such as a car accident, fall, or an incident resulting in an open wound. Trauma centers provide immediate care from a specialized team trained and experienced in stabilizing those patients and preventing further complications and, in many cases, death.

The verification process involved an in-depth, onsite review of the hospital’s trauma response capabilities, staff training, and clinical outcomes. The hospital’s trauma team, with includes a 24/7 on-call surgical team, proved its ability to provide advanced trauma life support and is equipped to handle emergency evaluation, stabilization, and diagnostic services.
