McLaren Flint is pleased to announce October’s Outstanding Employee of the Month, Shelby Brandon. Shelby is an administrative assistant for McLaren Flint’s Inpatient Rehab Services. After 40 years of service, colleagues consider Shelby the glue that holds Inpatient Rehab together.
“That statement is very humbling and appreciated,” Shelby said. “I try to anticipate the needs of our staff and department so that the daily operations run smoothly. I have a great job.”
Shelby credits the people she works with and the challenges of her job for keeping her at McLaren for four decades. Clearly, her colleagues are glad she stuck around.
“It is not uncommon to frequently hear, ‘ask Shelby,’” says nominator Inpatient Rehab Manager Mary Ellen Rinks. “She is an invaluable resource, even training associates from other departments. She is task oriented, yet always available to direct a wandering visitor or resident to their destination at the hospital. Shelby helps problem solve, yet remains humble, never expecting any recognition for the things she does.”
McLaren Flint managers, directors, and executive leadership nominate Outstanding Employee of the Month candidates. Award criteria are the hospital's mission and core values: contribution to culture and core values, teamwork, going the extra mile, outstanding patient service, performance excellence, and commitment.
