Innovative Partnerships Help High School Students Pursue Careers

In 2024, McLaren Flint developed a Workforce Development Initiative to create a guaranteed-employment educational partnership with Genesee Career Institute, Mott Community College, and UM-Flint.   It is designed to build a pipeline of students with the promise from McLaren Flint to either provide support toward their tuition or associated expenses, such as housing, in exchange for a work commitment equivalent to the investment.

The first four students in the initiative have finished their first year of college and were invited to McLaren Flint in late June to meet with hospital leaders and discuss their progress.

“This initiative is a win for both the students and McLaren Flint,” said Chris Candela, President and CEO. “We are providing the support system that four aspiring nurses need to get their training. Next year at this time, two of these dedicated, homegrown talents will be getting ready to join our workforce, while the other two continue working toward their BSNs before coming onboard.”
