McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, has earned “High Performing” designations for its care of a pair of common and potentially life-threatening conditions from U.S. News & World Report.
According to the publication’s annual hospital ranking list, McLaren Macomb earned “High Performing” marks for its treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and proficiency in heart bypass surgery.
“We aim to provide high-quality care and positive outcomes for every patient that passes through our doors,” said Dr. Andrew Staricco, chief medical officer at McLaren Macomb. “This is a goal we will continue to strive toward. We are very pleased to earn these recognitions and share it among our entire clinical staff.”
Each year, U.S. News & World Report evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 specialties and nine adult procedures and conditions to create a reference tool for patients seeking specialty care. The list is created based upon data collected from multiple professional organizations, placing the heaviest emphasis on patient outcomes.
To earn a “High Performing” distinction, a hospital must score within the top 20 percent of hospitals across the nation, sometimes in the top 10 percent for the more specialized conditions or procedures.
Previously in 2018, McLaren Macomb has earned recognition for its treatment of stroke from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, Healthgrades and the Economic Alliance for Michigan and care of cardiology patients from the American College of Cardiology and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
