MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—McLaren Macomb, through its philanthropic McLaren Macomb Foundation, has partnered with the Macomb Food Program to provide emergency food at no cost to patients receiving care from the McLaren Macomb Medical Outreach Clinic (MOC) to help supplement the meals of individuals and families in need of assistance. The McLaren Macomb MOC is a mobile doctor’s office staffed by physicians that parks at designated locations throughout the county to provide health care to the uninsured and indigent populations of Macomb County.
During the month of April, through this partnership, the underserved patients receiving medical care and treatment will also have access to food – which includes fresh fruits and vegetables – through the Macomb Food Program, a division of Macomb County Health and Community Services, and its Fresh to You Mobile Food Pantry, which will be parked next to the MOC.
All food and medical services are provided at no cost.
“McLaren Macomb has many talented and dedicated physicians who generously donate their time and ability to provide care to the area’s underserved population,” said Louise Rallis Wibbelman, McLaren Macomb Foundation director, “and they believe in the connection of good nutrition leading to good health, and it’s with that motivation that we are proud to partner with the Macomb Food Program.”
The Macomb Food Program provides immediate relief to those in need of food, suppling more than 50 pantries and relief organizations throughout Macomb County.
"Food insecurity and lack of health care are associated with some of the most serious and costly health problems,” said Linda Azar, Macomb Community Action, division director. “This partnership is a logical one as we continue to provide comprehensive services to our most vulnerable in an effort to improve health outcomes and disparities."
Macomb County Health and Community Services has previously partnered with the MOC, providing 500 flu vaccinations for its patients.
The MOC (which will begin seeing patients at 8:30 a.m.) and Fresh to You Mobile Food Pantry will be on-site at the following locations, dates and times:
St. Peter’s Parish Hall (92 New St. in Mount Clemens) – 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Tuesday, April 23 and 30
Thursday, April 18 and 25
Grace Episcopal Church (115 South Main St. in Mount Clemens) – 10 a.m. to 12 noon
