The McLaren St. Luke’s Foundation Board recently awarded every employee as the 2020 recipient of the Clair F. Martig Award for their outstanding service. The Clair F. Martig award was established in 1987 to honor Clair Martig, former St. Luke’s Hospital board chairman, who was known for his civic efforts in the 1950s and 1960s. The annual award now recognizes other individuals who have made significant contributions to McLaren St. Luke’s.
Criteria for nomination include:
- Being an active supporter of McLaren St. Luke’s goals and objectives
- Successfully developing, directing or working on projects that have a major bearing on the future of McLaren St. Luke’s
- Giving freely so that the work of McLaren St. Luke’s can thrive and prosper
Several nominators stated it would be impossible to single out one person this year when the pandemic took an entire village.
“I have witnessed employees making sure patients were first and always. They gave, and continued to give 110% to our hospital, not only through the pandemic, but also during the integration with McLaren Health Care,” said Pastor Steve Bauerle, member of the McLaren St. Luke’s Foundation Board of Directors. “McLaren St. Luke’s employees are stoic, caring, compassionate, bold, nurturing, loving, risk takers, dedicated, concerned, and professional,” he added.
“I have also seen the same level of dedication from our employees,” said Jennifer Montgomery, president & CEO, McLaren St. Luke’s. “It has been an extraordinary year, and I am grateful for their dedication and resilience, which has allowed us to overcome the pandemic obstacles we have faced.”
To celebrate, complimentary root beer floats from Ladder 419 – Toledo’s original beverage-dispensing firetruck – will be provided to all McLaren St. Luke’s employees on Wednesday, March 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 8-10 p.m.
