One of Maumee’s largest construction projects in years
Next week, McLaren St. Luke’s will be one step closer to enhancing patient care services and expanding access to care to benefit individuals of all ages in northwest Ohio. The five-year $100 million broad campus redevelopment strategy, one of the largest construction projects the greater Maumee community has witnessed in years, began earlier this year.
“This project will transform the face of health care in our community,” said Jennifer Montgomery, McLaren St. Luke’s president and CEO. “Our plans represent the next step in providing our community with the very latest clinical services and technology while providing greater comfort for our patients and their families. These are changes that will allow the flexibility necessary to accommodate future health care trends well into the future.”
Beginning, June 7, the new and improved SurgiCare outpatient surgery facility will re-open. As part of the $4.2 million SurgiCare renovation, the following state-of-the-art surgical equipment and technology were purchased:
- Steris OR integration system for advanced imaging tools and improved workflow
- New Stryker equipment towers provides the latest 4K imaging technology for arthroscopic and laparoscopic procedures
- New sterilizers for more efficient instrument sterilization
- Cerner electronic medical record for patient documentation
SurgiCare has four operating rooms and two procedure rooms for performing outpatient surgical procedures.
Additionally, a new $1.5 million open bore MRI will become operational on June 7. McLaren St. Luke’s invested in a state-of-the-art Open MRI at its Regency Court location in Toledo to offer a comfortable imaging experience for patients. The True Open MRI can easily capture images in a less confining space than traditional MRIs.
The True Open MRI:
- Offers a comfortable patient experience for all, especially pediatric, bariatric and geriatric patients
- Reduces patient anxiety with an open design so patients can see all around
- Quieter than traditional MRIs
- Sets the standard for image quality
The five-year renovation project and equipment upgrade plan, made possible by the October 2020 integration of the 123-year-old St. Luke’s Hospital with McLaren Health Care, will amount to more than $100 million. It will encompass the renovation of several outpatient facilities, including SurgiCare, opening June 7, the Fallen Timbers Medical Center and McLaren St. Luke’s Neurosurgery Clinic.
The centerpiece of the project will be a complete overhaul and beautification of the hospital, which will begin later this year. The renovation will feature upgrades to the operating rooms and the purchase of new surgical equipment; the redesign of all hospital public spaces, the intensive care center; a new main entrance pavilion; and updates to patient rooms. Finally, an upgraded, light-filled lobby, a renovated cafeteria and other amenities will provide an enhanced visitor experience for patients’ family and friends. All renovations are expected to be completed by 2026.
“The renovation of our hospital campus and offsite facilities is a reflection of our larger vision of how our campus should perform for the next 20 years,” said Montgomery. “This progressive approach coincides with our preserving, yet elevating, the community’s access to high quality health care.”
