Neurosurgeon joins McLaren Northern Michigan

Neurosurgeon Justin Thomas, DO, has joined McLaren Northern Michigan Neurosciences, located at 560 West Mitchell Street, Suite 340, in Petoskey, MI.

Raised in the metro Detroit area, Dr. Thomas attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate degrees. He received his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his specialty training in neurosurgery through the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine at Ascension Providence-Providence Park Hospital in Southfield and Novi, MI.

In addition to general neurosurgery, Dr. Thomas was trained by his mentor Dr. Teck Mun Soo to perform minimally invasive spine surgery and revision spine surgery along with other treatments for complex spinal deformity. Dr. Thomas also has a passion for cerebrovascular neurosurgery, and he is looking to build the stroke and endovascular programs at McLaren Northern Michigan. He is excited to bring these comprehensive new treatment options to the northern Michigan community.

“When I chose a career in medicine, I wanted to be a physician in a smaller community,” said Dr. Thomas. “Many years later that idea has become a wonderful reality, and I am excited to build the specialized field of neurosurgery in Petoskey and northern Michigan.”

Beyond neurosurgery, Dr. Thomas is an outdoor enthusiast. He particularly enjoys cycling, marathon running, and triathlons along with boating on the Michigan lakes. In the winter, he is an avid downhill and backcountry skier. Dr. Thomas is passionate about international healthcare awareness and co-founded the Neuroscience Foundation for Africa, a registered non-profit organization working to advance neurosciences in East Africa. He is actively working with Michigan State University to develop combined humanitarian-study abroad medical programs to train neurosurgeons and healthcare providers in Africa.

Dr. Thomas welcomes new patients. To learn more about McLaren Northern Michigan Neurosciences, visit McLaren.org/Northern or call (231) 487-3182.
