Officials at McLaren Bay Region have been made aware of a concerning scam in Bay County involving fraudulent phone numbers.
According to Heather McAllister, Director of Regulatory Compliance for McLaren Bay Region, the fraudulent parties have technology that can make the recipient’s caller ID appear as McLaren Bay Region. Fraudulent calls have been reported to display as “McLaren Bay,” “Bay Region” and “McLaren Bay Psychiatric” on various caller ID systems in a scamming practice called ID spoofing.
“It’s unfortunate that our hospital name is being used to make people more vulnerable to these phone scams,” McAllister said. “We will continue to diligently investigate these matters to seek a resolution that protects the safety and privacy of our patients and community.”
If you have concerns about a phone call that appears to be from McLaren Bay Region, hospital officials recommend hanging up immediately. All fraudulent calls reported to the hospital are investigated, and to date, none have been found to originate from within McLaren Bay Region or other McLaren subsidiaries or offices.
