Cancer Support Resources

Support Provides Strength

To support medical treatments, integrative therapies are used to treat the whole patient — mind, body and soul. Karmanos Cancer Institute offers a wide variety of educational, spiritual, palliative care and nutrition resources to provide the extra care and support patients and their families need to have a successful journey through cancer. In addition, every journey begins with the assignment of an oncology patient navigator. These navigators help patients through every step of their cancer care. They can be a single point of contact between the patient and medical team.

Cancer specialists who are focused on your particular cancer

Karmanos offers 15 multidisciplinary teams; each designed and staffed specifically to ensure that patients and their families get their cancer diagnosis and treatment right the first time. Each team consists of cancer specialists who are focused on your particular cancer and who have devoted their careers to fighting the very cancer with which you are confronted.

Our team members include specialists from each discipline including, diagnostic, medical and surgical oncology, radiation oncology; pathology; radiology; oncology nursing; supportive care; and, when appropriate, genetics.

Lodging and Transportation

Karmanos and McLaren subsidiary locations have lodging facilities near the hospital that offer reduced rates for patients and their families.

Oncology Patient Navigators

When someone diagnosed with cancer comes to Karmanos, they will receive exceptional care from our entire team. Our Patient Navigator Program features a dedicated registered oncology nurse who works to guide patients through the health care system, ensuring they receive seamless, coordinated care, along with any other necessary support services. The patient navigator is a constant, a familiar face that is always there to answer questions, reinforce patient education, ease anxiety and eliminate any barriers that might impede care. What's more, the patient navigator will communicate with the primary care physician, ensuring they receive up-to-date information about their patients' progress.
