Karmanos researchers have developed life-saving protocols that have been adopted across Michigan and around the world. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plays a vital role in advancing our shared goal of providing better outcomes for all. Karmanos first received the NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center designation in 1978 in collaboration with Wayne State University. Today, Karmanos is one of only two cancer centers in Michigan with an NCI designation and one of only 54 hospitals nationally.
