McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation - FREE Summer Wellness Expo

If you’re interested in learning more about fitness or gaining lifesaving skills to help keep you and your family safe, make sure to come to the free Summer Wellness Expo from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, August 9 at Nub’s Nob. Come in your workout clothes and be prepared to participate as much as you want in mini-workout sessions designed specifically for you.

And, if your child, or the child in you, has always wanted to see the inside of an ambulance, or how a fire truck works, then the Summer Wellness Expo is the perfect opportunity.

McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation has teamed up with its Foundation Board members and Nub’s Nob to host the first annual Summer Wellness Expo. Community members are invited to experience the “keys to health living” in distinct areas:
• Keys to Fitness: hiking, running, and fitness classes
• Keys to Nutrition: tips and demonstrations on healthy eating
• Keys to Lifesaving Skills: hands-on training for community CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, Stop the Bleed, and more!
• Kids activities, lunch, and additional hands-on sessions
• Childcare available

“We are excited to team up with so many community businesses and resources to make these free events available to the public,” said Elise Hayes, chair of the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Board and chair of the committee planning the event. “We will have activities for adults, for children, for seniors, for families…for everyone, and it’s all free.”

Event organizers encourage everyone to come dressed to participate to the degree one wants, as the 20-minute sessions and fitness classes are designed to be hands on. Just a few of the fitness activities include CrossFit, Yoga, Graston Deep Tissue Technique, a Labyrinth, a self-guided hike up the hills of Nub’s Nob, and Jazzercise.

Kid’s activities include a tour of an ambulance, experiencing a fire truck and shooting water from a hose, meeting a police officer, making tasty snacks, as well as outdoor activities to keep youngsters active.

Booths offering lifesaving skills include Stop the Bleed, CPR/Heimlich, stroke education, blood pressure screening, nutrition tips, and more. Professionals from McLaren Northern Michigan and others throughout the community will present sessions on recovering from substance abuse, vaping, the opioid crisis, first aid for bee stings and tick bites, stroke education, balance safety and fall prevention, and a holistic look at physical wellness.

A free healthy lunch will be served by Nub’s Nob. For a full schedule of events and times, visit mclaren.org/NorthernMichiganFoundation.
