Brick Paver Program

Buy a Brick: A Contribution with Lasting Impact

Personalized bricks are a tangible way to honor the memory of a loved one. Placed in the garden walkways of the Hiland Cottage Memorial Garden or the Cheboygan Hospice House Community Reflection Garden, the bricks are a visible reminder of those who came before, and a source of comfort for all who visit. Funds support annual plantings, new trees, garden enhancements, and garden maintenance.

A Commitment to Education is a Commitment to Better Patient Outcomes.

At McLaren Northern Michigan, our guiding principle is to provide healthcare as we expect for our own family. Integral to that guiding principle is having a dedicated staff of more than 1,900 compassionate and caring colleagues, with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills. That is why the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation maintains a commitment to provide Educational Scholarships to all of our colleagues.

We strongly believe that scholarships to attend conferences, webinars, certifications, professional training or receive advanced degrees are returned tenfold in the care that our patients receive.

In 2014, McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation awarded 328 colleagues with scholarships totaling more than $201,000. Nearly 200of those scholarships were to colleagues working toward their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

80/20 Rule

  • McLaren Northern Michigan committed to a goal of having 80% of the nursing staff with a bachelor of science degree or higher by the year 2020.
  • Study after study has demonstrated the positive impact on patient care when a nurse’s education level increases.
  • In an associate degree program, nurses are taught the what and how, while in the bachelor of science degree program, nurses are taught the why. Nurses with their bachelor of science degree are prepared for a broader scope of practice and have a better understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues that affect patients and influence healthcare delivery.

McLaren Northern Michigan is committed to nursing education and offers its nurses tuition reimbursement. However, this usually only covers a portion of the expense. Nursing scholarships, offered through the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation, often make the difference between pursuing an advanced degree or having to put it on hold.
