Helping Breast Health Patients in Northern Michigan
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Each October we ask area businesses to join us in supporting local women and men in their fight against cancer.
The Kathleen Jontz Breast Health Fund
Kathleen Jontz’s friends established the Kathleen Jontz Breast Health Fund in honor of how passionate she was about children not losing their mothers to breast cancer.
From the first mammogram through remission, the Kathleen Jontz Breast Health Fund supports, comforts, and cares for patients. Because early detection is so important for successful treatment, the fund offsets the cost for important diagnostic tests, including mammograms and biopsies, for patients in northern Michigan who are unable to afford them. During breast cancer treatment, patients receive assistance for transportation costs, lodging expenses, short term prescription aid, comfort items, and more. The fund also supports the needs of the Breast Health Department including equipment purchases

The Kim Monthei Cancer Fund
Offering a hand was what Kim Monthei was known for in the area that she called home. Kim lost her battle with breast cancer in 2014 and would be pleased to see that her family and friends have continued to help others in her memory.
The Kim Monthei Cancer Fund was established by her family and M&M Plumbing Heating and Cooling in her memory. She cared for the people in northern Michigan and is still making a difference with your help.

Here’s how your gifts to the Kim Monthei Cancer Fund help patients:
- You help provide patients with a healthy meal. For some recipients, it is the first time they can afford to shop for and select nutritional food they love; an experience many of us take for granted each day.
- You help cover the cost of transportation so patients can access cancer treatment; this can be a round trip distance of over 100 miles a day for patients living in rural areas.
- You help provide assistance with mammography screening, biopsies, ultrasounds, medications, and diagnostic equipment.
- Your gift enables patients diagnosed with cancer to focus on their health, getting stronger, and healing.
