Beacon Society - Lighting the Way

The Beacon Society was founded in 1991 to recognize our most generous supporters, those that make a minimum commitment of $10,000 over a 10-year period. Just as a lighthouse beacon provides sound guidance and direction for shipping, the Beacon Society lights the way for excellence in the health of our community. Gifts made through the Society have had a major impact on McLaren Port Huron, contributing to new technology, service line enhancements, community programs and staff education.
Members of the Beacon Society promote health and hope, a rare and valuable gift. In appreciation, members receive special recognition in the main lobby of the hospital, and are also recognized in hospital newsletters, and other publications. In addition, Beacon members receive special invitations to significant functions and events throughout the year. There are currently 150 Beacon Society members.
For additional information on the Beacon Society, or to become a member, please contact Sara Tait at (810) 989-3793 or Sara.Tait@mclaren.org.

TAKE A MOMENT TO HONOR YOUR CAREGIVER
Thank you for choosing McLaren Port Huron for your recent health care needs. Our patients and their families often tell us it is difficult to express the gratitude they feel for the caregivers who relieved their pain, listened to their needs, made them comfortable or even saved their lives. While no thanks are necessary, a gift to the McLaren Port Huron Foundation is a meaningful way to thank your doctor, nurse or other staff, and honor the work they do.
GIVING BACK
Gifts received through this program recognize deserving caregivers, and also provide a healthier tomorrow for our community. As a non-profit hospital, McLaren Port Huron provides millions of dollars in charity care each year, as well as community benefit activities like free health screenings, educational programs and partnerships with our local schools.
When you make a donation, the caregiver will be informed of your thoughtful gift and will receive a Guardian Angel pin, symbolizing your appreciation.
The Ally Project
In the fall of 2019, our family experienced a life changing event. Our beloved teenager, in the midst of a health crisis, attempted suicide. Thankfully he has recovered and is thriving. The key to our son's recovery has been embracing his identity as a transgender person. His journey through the healthcare system began in a trauma bay at McLaren Port Huron and has continued through many different settings. Our son's most healing encounters have been when his gender identity has been respected and affirmed. McLaren Port Huron is full of amazing individuals who work every day to create such a healing environment: they are Allies. We wish to encourage and expand upon this!

Whether you have an appendicitis or a broken bone, a minor surgery or a major illness, your sexual orientation or gender identity should never be a barrier to receiving excellent care. The Ally Project endeavors to create an equitable and affirming environment for LGBTQ patients, staff and community members at McLaren Port Huron. This McLaren Port Huron Foundation fund supports LGBTQ specific staff education, internal process improvements, identification and support of local LGBTQ friendly providers and community engagement. Help us assure everyone has an Ally at McLaren Port Huron!

Partners in Health
Business Partners in Health contributions provide the vital margin that enables McLaren Port Huron to be of special service to you, your employees, your family and your community.
Partners in Health is the corporate version of the Beacon Society. This group of farsighted community leaders is continuing the tradition of excellence in healthcare that began when the Port Huron "Hospital and Home" opened its doors in 1882.
Gifts made through the Partners in Health program significantly impact the health of the Blue Water area by providing prevention and wellness activities, services, medical equipment and facilities identified by the community-based McLaren Port Huron Board of Trustees and hospital management.
Membership is extended to those who make a minimum commitment of $1,000 per year over the course of 10 years. This commitment to a healthier community may be fulfilled immediately or through a payment schedule specified by you. All gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law.
As a member, your business will be featured on a permanent recognition display located in the main lobby of the hospital, and will be recognized in hospital newsletters and other publications. In addition, Partners in Health members are accorded special invitations to significant functions and events in the life of McLaren Port Huron throughout the year.
For additional information on Business Partners in Health, please contact Major Gifts Specialist Sara Tait at (810) 989-3793 or Sara.Tait@McLaren.org.
Precious Gifts
Celebrating a New Life
At McLaren Port Huron we realize that the birth of a child is one of life's most important occasions. The Precious Gifts program was developed to provide a unique opportunity for parents, grandparents, family members and friends to celebrate the arrival of a new baby.
Your Precious Gifts contribution will be used to purchase equipment to enhance the quality of care provided by McLaren Port Huron's maternal and infant care services.
Parents of babies honored in the Precious Gifts program will receive a card and a keepsake with the baby's name and birthdate. The baby's name and birthdate will also be permanently recognized on the Precious Gifts mural located in the Miriam F. Acheson Family Birth Place.

Tree of Life
Paying Tribute
The Tree of Life is a unique program for donors who wish to permanently pay tribute to family members and friends through a contribution to McLaren Port Huron.
Tribute gifts are given for a wide variety of occasions. Some are given in honor of birthdays, anniversaries or retirements; others are given as a distinctive and meaningful way to memorialize a loved one.
Tree of Life gifts convey a message of caring to family members, friends and colleagues, and also to the patients who will directly benefit from these thoughtful tributes. The proceeds will help McLaren Port Huron continue to provide quality healthcare for our community.
Your participation in the Tree of Life program is welcome! The contribution for a leaf is $500, an apple is $2,500 and a stone is $5,000. Each leaf, apple and stone can be engraved with a personal message.
About the Sculpture
The Tree of Life is hand cast in antique bronze and solid brass. It was designed for the hospital by Sanford Werfel, a noted New Jersey sculptor who was commissioned by the Statue of Liberty Foundation to design, sculpt and cast the new cornerstone tablet for the refurbished Statue of Liberty.
The sculpture is approximately seven feet high and eight feet in diameter. The tree contains 500 leaves, 18 apples and at the base of the tree is a grouping of 12 stones. An inscription in the trunk reads:
"Here at whatever hour you come, you will find light and help and human kindness."

Annual Support
The mission of the Foundation's Annual Support committee is to increase awareness of McLaren Port Huron projects and activities, and to provide opportunities for the community to support the hospital's efforts. The committee seeks financial support for the hospital through Cornerstone Club, Business Honor Roll and other giving opportunities.
Beacon Society
The mission of the Beacon Society committee is to increase the number of individual major donors to McLaren Port Huron and to strengthen relationships with those donors. The Beacon Society, founded by the Special Gifts committee in 1991, recognizes a select group of caring community members who are dedicated to McLaren Port Huron and continued health care excellence.
Community Benefit
The Lexington, Marysville and Yale/Capac Community Health Team committees work to identify health education and service needs in our community, and then implement new programs to meet those needs. Employees That Care Club
Volunteers of the Employees That Care (ETC) committee contribute their time to assisting with the ETC Club, which supports McLaren Port Huron projects that benefit hospital employees, patients and our community. ETC programs and projects are solely supported through employee contributions. These committee members contribute their time to the annual Festival of Trees, a huge community event with over 12,000 participants every holiday season. This event has raised over a million dollars to benefit services of McLaren Port Huron.
Major Gifts
The Major Gifts Committee exists to identify and solicit those individuals who are willing to make a contribution of $25,000 or more to McLaren Port Huron and its healthcare partners. This contribution may be a one-time gift or a pledge over time (not more than 5 years). The committee is made up of community leaders who believe in the mission of McLaren Port Huron and support it thorough major philanthropic means.
Planned Giving
The mission of the Planned Giving committee is to work with estate and financial planning professionals to promote charitable giving through seminars on estate planning, financial planning and tax-tips. The committee also prepares brochures and articles to provide information to the community on related topics. The Heritage Circle Giving Club recognizes, honors and thanks those persons whose vision and stewardship have moved them to perpetuate the Hospital through planned gifts.
