Our program follows a 13-block academic curriculum which repeats once a cycle has ended. This scheduled is comprised of Morning Didactics three days per week and Academic Half Day sessions Friday afternoons. These sessions are formatted to include presentations from faculty, specialists, guest speakers as well as wellness activities, board review series, and a block exam on topics covered from the previous block and questions from Rosh Review and the New England Journal of Medicine.
Community Outreach Opportunities
Helen M. Nickless Volunteer Clinic:
The Helen M. Nickless Volunteer clinic provides free health care services to the uninsured and medically underserved in our communities. A food pantry is also available for those in need. Residents independently volunteer throughout their third year of residency with supervision as needed.
Sports Physicals:
Residents visit local high schools and provide free sports physical exams to student athletes.
Lifestyle Medicine
In addition to obtaining board certification in Family Medicine, our residents receive comprehensive training in Lifestyle Medicine through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
There is also an opportunity to be board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine. This training is a three-year, longitudinal, evidence-based curriculum where residents focus on incorporating nutrition, stress regulation, exercise, and other measures into medicine. Residents are encouraged to use these treatment options throughout their training and, ultimately, in their practices after graduation.
OMT
Monthly lectures and workshops covering OMT principles, structural anatomy, specific techniques for different body regions (e.g., spine, upper extremity), and conditions like low back pain, migraines, and musculoskeletal injuries.
Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)
New curriculum launched to train residents in application of POCUS. It is a combination of didactics and hands on training led by our Core Faculty.
Well-Being
Residents' well-being is an important focus for the program and is addressed via a three-year curriculum with protected Wellness activities. Residents are provided protected time for their medical appointments. Wellbeing is maximized when physicians understand their health system and feel effective when caring for their patients.
Physician-resident burnout is addressed with access to mental health support being available 24/7.
