CARDIOVASCULAR NURSES RECEIVE HONOR

Beacon Award for ExcellenceNurses in the cardiovascular unit (CVU) at McLaren Northern Michigan received the Silver Level Beacon Award of Excellence. The award, given by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, recognizes medical units that demonstrate exemplary levels of patient care, patient outcomes, and overall satisfaction.

“Earning a Beacon is a testament to collaboration and diligence within CVU,” says Jennifer Woods, RN, MSN, CNML, Chief Nursing Officer for McLaren Northern Michigan. “Our cardiovascular nurses are very effective as a unit, and are dedicated to providing the best care to patients.”

Unit performance is measured in four areas including leadership structures and systems; appropriate staffing and staff engagement; effective communication, knowledge management, learning and development; evidence-based practices and processes; and patient outcomes.

“Cardiovascular care at McLaren Northern Michigan is among the best in the state and the nation, and our cardiovascular nurses are a large part of that reason,” added Woods.

The Beacon Award of Excellence carries a three-year designation, allowing the unit to chart its progress over time. For more information about the Beacon Award and its recipients, visit aacn.org/beacon.
