McLaren Bay Region, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and the Great Lakes Bay Region’s leading health care provider, has completed and officially opened its nearly $900,000 total renovation and expansion of its emergency department waiting area.
The emergency department at McLaren Bay Region provides care for tens of thousands of patients every year and welcomes countless more visitors and caregivers.
Recognizing an opportunity to enhance those patients’ and visitors’ convenience, comfort, and overall health care experience, the hospital undertook a multi-phased project to refresh furniture and flooring, add calming artwork, elevate security, as well as add other amenities.
“A trip to the emergency department can be understandably stressful, and a calming and purposefully designed area to wait in can help promote the emotional well-being of patients and those with them,” said Stacey Klump, McLaren Bay Region Chief Nursing Officer. “Our aim is to create a peaceful environment in order to set the tone for the safe, compassionate care our patients expect and deserve, and we are grateful to be able to offer this latest enhancement of our facility for the benefit of our community.”
The project was made possible through the generosity of community members, McLaren Bay Region employees, and local businesses and their donations to the McLaren Bay Medical Foundation.
The demand for emergency care is rising throughout Michigan and across the country. With several advanced care accreditations and featuring 34 treatment spaces, the McLaren Bay Region emergency department provides the community with a full complement of providers and care teams to ensure patients are able to receive the level of care they require when they arrive in need of timely, potentially lifesaving interventions and procedures.
Patients also have the capability to schedule their non-life-threatening care in the ER by checking in online, minimizing their onsite wait.
Construction took approximately a year to complete, though by taking a phased approach to the project, the department was able to remain open, fully operational, and accommodate waiting patients throughout the process.
