COVID-19: Can mosquitoes spread the coronavirus?

A big concern many have had during the pandemic (especially during warmer months) has been if mosquitoes can spread the coronavirus.

With malaria being the most well-known, mosquitoes are notorious spreaders of viral illnesses (such as the EEE outbreak from last summer).

Researchers, however, have determined that mosquitoes do not spread COVID-19.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed it has no data to support coronavirus transmission via mosquito bite, and, similarly, the World Health Organization said bites will not pass along the virus.

Researchers have said that in order for mosquitoes to be able to pass the virus along to a human, the mosquito would first have to become infected with the coronavirus and have it replicate within it.

Testing multiple species of mosquitoes, none became infected with the coronavirus.
