Interventional Cardiologist Joins McLaren Northern Michigan

Welcome Stephen Mattichak, MD

McLaren Northern Michigan is pleased to welcome board-certified interventional cardiologist, Stephen J. Mattichak, MD, to Michigan Heart & Vascular Specialists.

Born and raised in Michigan, Dr. Mattichak’s love for medicine started in high school when studying biochemistry anatomy. After high school, Dr. Mattichak went to Wayne State School of Medicine for his medical degree. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Mattichak completed two fellowships at William Beaumont Hospital including an Adult Clinical Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology.

With 15 years of cardiovascular experience, Dr. Mattichak is looking forward to practicing cardiac care in Northern Michigan. “McLaren provides an excellent health care system for the state of Michigan. McLaren Northern Michigan has a well-known reputation for excellence in cardiology,” stated Dr. Mattichak. “I am excited to add my focused and patient-directed practice style to the group. I have a true passion for quality care, cardiology procedures, and rural outreach care.”

Dr. Mattichak has a special interest in interventional and preventative cardiology including vascular biology and inflammation, peripheral vascular medicine, peripheral endovascular procedures, stroke management, and correction of patent foramen ovalis to prevent strokes and migraines. “Each and every patient experience means a lot to me. Helping people understand and manage their symptoms while improving quality of life is very rewarding,” he expressed.

When not practicing medicine or spending time with his two daughters, Dr. Mattichak likes to travel, paddle board, kayak, ski, fish, listen to music, cook, cycle, and go to the theatre.
