McLaren Bay Region to Break Ground on $50M McLaren Bay West Medical Campus, Freestanding Emergency Department

McLaren Bay Region, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and the Great Lakes Bay Region’s leading health care provider, is set to break ground on a $53.6 million renovation of its West Campus site, resulting in McLaren Bay West, a multispecialty medical campus to include frequently used care services and feature a freestanding emergency department.

Located off East Midland Road between 2 Mile Road and North Euclid Avenue on the site of the former McLaren Bay Special Care, construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the year. Planning to open the campus in phases, the first patient is expected to be treated in the spring of 2026, and the freestanding emergency department is slated to open in the summer of 2027.

“McLaren Bay West marks a purposeful step forward in our ongoing commitment to serve the Great Lakes Bay Region with greater access, expanded services, and the highest quality of care,” said Tom Keller, President and CEO of McLaren Bay Region. “This new medical campus — anchored by a freestanding emergency department — demonstrates our promise to meet the evolving needs of our patients and community, ensuring care is compassionate, convenient, and available when it’s needed most.”

With two stories and more than 50,000 square feet, the campus will further extend McLaren Bay Region’s reach into the community, providing increased access to primary care, comprehensive diagnostic imaging, and lab services. The campus will also host the Orthopedic Center of Excellence, which will include an orthopedic practice, pain management center, and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services in a single, 3,000-square-foot clinic space.

“Our investments are driven by a commitment to expanding access for everyone in the communities we serve,” said Chad Grant, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “For many patients, factors like distance, long wait times, and limited availability of specific services often delay their decision to seek care. McLaren Bay West embodies our promise to address those barriers — delivering timely, comprehensive, and compassionate care, conveniently available when and where patients need it.”

Plans also include office space to accommodate a rotating staff of specialists, such as cardiologists, neurologists, and surgical consultants, as well as space to expand with additional services.
