Andrew Goike, PA, has spent a career making connections with people.
Following stints in social work and education, a career in medicine as a primary care provider—a position and specialty in which it is natural to make long-term connections with patients—is instinctive.
Having moved to Mount Pleasant years ago, Andrew is proud to now be in the position to care for his adopted hometown and build his family in the area.
Meet Andrew.
Why did you choose this profession?
Although my career has taken me from social work to education and now finally to medicine, what has never changed is that I have always strived to serve my community through my career. I love being able to help people effect lasting and positive change in their lives, and medicine has provided me the widest reaching ability to do so.
Why did you choose family medicine?
My favorite part of practicing medicine is learning who my patients are and what matters most to them. As a family medicine provider, I am able to establish a long-term relationship with my patients as I see them year after year. This gives me the opportunity to become an important part of their lives, and I am able to develop an authentic and close relationship with them. It is fostering this close relationship that leads to the best outcome for my patients and the most effective practice of medicine.
Why did you choose to practice here in central Michigan?
I moved to Mount Pleasant for school 18 years ago, and I fell in love with the area. I met my wife here and look forward to raising our family here. As an avid runner, I have fallen in love with the parks and the natural beauty inherent to the area. There is nowhere I would rather be practicing.
Why did you choose to practice with McLaren?
McLaren offered me an office right in the middle of the town I have grown to love, why would I go anywhere else! McLaren has served the central Michigan community well for many years now, and I share their values. It is a perfect fit for both of us.
What do you hope to accomplish with your practice?
I hope to establish strong lasting connections with my patients. Connections that allow my patients to feel comfortable and safe. The strongest proof to me that I am doing well would be to hear that my patients are recommending me to their friends and family.
Any specific interests?
I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen. My family and I play our own versions of Food Network-style cooking competitions with each other. I also love to run. This past year I actually ran a marathon (26.2 miles) in Mount Pleasant! I felt like I ran up and down basically every street in town during my race.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself?
My wife and I are expecting our first child (she's a girl!) at the end of this year, and I couldn't be more excited. But please forgive any bags under my eyes in the coming months.
