Three hospitals part of statewide McLaren Health Care have earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national distinction that recognizes the hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm while providing safe, compassionate health care.
McLaren Port Huron, McLaren Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, and McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey have all earned ‘A’ grades.
The highest achievable recognition, grades are assigned based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harm to patients in their care, as well as patient experience.
“The distinction of earning an ‘A’ Safety Grade is a validation of the tremendous work and attention provided by or clinical teams each and every day,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “Across McLaren we are working to expand our culture of safety, quality and service excellence. For those communities relying on our facilities for their care and the care of their loved ones, these grades show a measure of confidence in the trust they place in us — that safe care is at the center of everything we do. It has been exciting to see the clear and decisive improvement across our system, and we are incredibly proud and grateful to the teams and leadership whose dedication made these grades possible.”
A trusted and influential patient guide, the Leapfrog Group uses publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to hospitals twice a year. The methodology is peer-reviewed, and the resulting grades are provided to the public free of charge.
