McLaren Macomb earns ‘A’ for patient safety in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, earned an ‘A’ grade in the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades for its efforts in protecting patients from harm while meeting the highest safety standards in the United States. The Leapfrog Group, an organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers, assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D or F to all hospitals in the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms for patients in their care.

McLaren Macomb is the only hospital in Macomb County to earn an ‘A.’

Receiving an ‘A’ places McLaren Macomb among the top hospitals in the country for preventing infections, injuries and medical errors.

“Providing effective treatment in a compassionate and safe environment will always be the mission of our hospital and our promise to each patient,” said Dr. Beth Wendt, McLaren Macomb chief of staff and medical director of quality. “Teams of excellent bedside caregivers ensure that this promise is kept every day, and to have the results of those efforts recognized along with the top providers across the country endorses their efforts.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades use 27 measurements of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 hospitals across the country, free for the public to view.

Previously this year, McLaren Macomb earned a statewide Hospital Patient Safety Award from the Economic Alliance of Michigan (EAM).
