McLaren Central Michigan’s SANE, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, program recently received a new barrier-free gynecological exam chair. Funded by a grant awarded earlier this year by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, this chair provides an improved patient experience during a lower-body examination.
"With this new chair, patients can sit in a position of control during a sexual assault exam instead of lying flat on a table,” shared Beth Nesbitt, BSN, RN, SANE Program Coordinator. “It’s important to make our patients as comfortable as possible, and this chair assists us in doing that."
Features of this chair also include the ability for low and high positioning heights, hideaway stirrups, foot extension shelves to expand the chair length, and foot control designed to ease patient positioning.
Unique to our region, the McLaren Central Michigan SANE Program’s nurses are specially trained to provide sexual assault examinations and are on-call 24 hours a day in the hospital’s emergency department.
