Different from other cancer treatment centers: What makes Karmanos unique

Karmanos’ 16 locations provide individualized treatment plans for each patient

When a person is diagnosed with cancer, their treatment plan will not be the same as another patient’s treatment plan. Treating cancer is a comprehensive, teamwork approach that may require several treatments, tests, follow-up care, and multiple doctors.

Cancer specialists who are committed to delivering the best care

Specialists at Karmanos Cancer Institute, part of McLaren Health Care, only treat cancer and have devoted their careers to fighting the cancers their patients face. At each location throughout the Karmanos Cancer Network, patients will discover that their care team consists of multiple specialists who take care of specific aspects of their care, often under one roof.

How our physicians are staffed at each location ensures our patients and their families that we want to get their cancer diagnosis and treatment right the first time. The many disciplines that patients often need for their care are found at Karmanos and McLaren, including medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, reconstructive surgeons, pharmacists, specialized oncology nurses, supportive care specialists, dietitians, social workers, and when appropriate, genetic counselors.

Karmanos physicians collaborate and share a passion for reducing the time between diagnosis and treatment planning and eliminating doubt among patients. Specialists at each location meet to discuss each new patient’s case, reviewing their diagnosis, health history, family health history, pathology reports, genetic testing results, and radiology scans. Together, the doctors develop a comprehensive plan that includes their collective recommendation for care that reflects the latest thinking from all the various specialists.
