    Welcome to the McLaren Oakland Transitional Year Residency Program!

    We are proud to offer a dynamic training experience that combines the best of community-based medicine with a strong academic foundation. Our program is designed for residents pursuing a broad range of specialties, including radiology, dermatology, anesthesiology, PM&R, and others who benefit from a well-rounded transitional year.

    At McLaren Oakland, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a diverse clinical setting, working alongside dedicated faculty who are committed to your personal and professional growth. Rotations

Goals

The educational goals of our program include training the residents in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients while emphasizing the principles of the six core competencies. These include medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement and systems-based practice. The McLaren Oakland Transitional Year Internship program follows the path the following curriculum for each of the core competencies.

By the end of the training year, the TY resident will be able to demonstrate the following clinical skills:

  • Obtains a comprehensive history of the patient and perform a comprehensive exam.
  • Demonstrate and applies medical knowledge to evaluate and diagnose and treat frequently encountered clinical conditions.
  • Develops a learning plan based on organized feedback and assessment.
  • Consistently recognizes ethical issues in practice and is able to discuss, analyze and manage these.
  • Effectively communicates patient information during transitions of care.
  • Works with other members of the healthcare team to identify system errors and potential areas of quality improvement.
