Residents are scheduled for continuity clinics one half day per week at the Internal Medicine Residency Group Practice with the exception of night float and ICU rotations. Residents on the Geriatric rotation see patients in the Geriatrician’s practice as well as in Geriatric Assessment Clinic.

Established over two decades ago, the McLaren Flint Faculty and Residents see patients at the Genesee County Free Medical Clinic during regularly scheduled hours, 3 times per week. This is a charitable clinic staffed by volunteers to provide care to the uninsured.

Residents are assigned a panel of Geriatric patients in a skilled nursing home whom they evaluate monthly and serve as the primary care physician in conjunction with the Attending.

This is a required outpatient rotation for PGY 1 residents scheduled to work one-on-one with Hematology/Oncology faculty for 1 month.

1-2/year Musculoskeletal (including joint injection techniques) and Dermatology.

AHD occurs Friday afternoons.

Grand Rounds are held on Thursday mornings. Speakers present on the latest in research, diagnosis, and management of various conditions.

Progressive disclosure of cases with audience interactions teases out the full details with comprehensive differential diagnostic considerations refined as additional information is considered.

Intern presents details about an article: senior resident teaches how to critically evaluate medical literature by critiquing its design, results, sampling biases, etc.

Noon conferences are held Monday through Wednesday each week.

Case assigned to intern by senior resident for review and then presentation of the case details.

Patient safety is an organizational goal. Residents are encouraged to report Safety events anonymously. Principles of safety are embedded in our M&M conference.

Senior Residents are given an unknown case to systematically evaluate the evidence to come up with a likely diagnosis. They present at Grand Rounds where a pathologist provides final tissue diagnosis and summary.

Review papers presented by residents with a focus on a single discipline.

Residents present recent articles anticipated to have a major impact on how medicine is practiced.

Residents present organ specific imaging diagnostic cases.

Residents' well-being is an important focus for the program and is addressed via curriculum-based approach combination of didactics and protected Wellness activities every 2-3 months (e.g. team building at Base Camp, Food as Medicine, Outdoor photography) Residents are provided protected time for their medical appointments. Mental health access is available 24/7 to all residents.

New curriculum launched to train residents in application of POCUS. It is a combination of didactics and hands on training led by one of our core faculty and a pulmonologist.

Code blue and Rapid Response case scenarios.

Residents have an opportunity to perform outpatient and inpatient procedures as defined by the ACGME.
