- Nursery
- State-of-the-art maternal, fetal, and infant monitoring and equipment
- We are proud to staff based on AWHONN staffing guidelines
Infant Hearing Test
Here at McLaren Greater Lansing we utilize the automated auditory brain stem response (AABR) testing method. The first screening will not occur until at least 12 hours of age. Should the newborn fail the first screening, a second screening will be performed prior to discharge. If the newborn fails the hearing test a second time, the staff will notify you and provide you a referral to an audiologist for further evaluation.
McLaren Greater Lansing's Birthplace Visitation Guidelines
- Each patient is allowed one support person that may remain and is not considered a visitor.
- The designated support person is not interchangeable. The visitor can be changed each day.
- The support person and 1 visitor (18 years or older) are allowed during labor.
- We ask that the support person and visitor limit the amount of times they enter and leave the unit to once per shift. If the support person chooses to leave it must be during visiting hours (11 a.m. - 8 p.m.). The support person should pack additional changes of clothing, medication, toiletries, and other items they will need for the entire stay.
- We will continue with screening questions for both mother and her support person at admission and one visitor when they arrive. If the support person begins to show signs of COVID-like symptoms, they will need to leave the unit. If the mother has signs or symptoms, her plan of care may change.
- We ask that patients stay in their room unless encouraged to walk the hall by your nurse. A mask is required for both the patient and support person when staff are present.
- We provide meals for support person of a COVID positive patient as they cannot leave the unit.
- COVID positive patients are not allowed visitors.
- Child care considerations should be arranged prior to a patient’s stay.
- After delivery, 2 visitors at a time are allowed during visiting hours (11 a.m.- 8 p.m.). Visitors must be 18 years or older.
- Siblings are allowed for brief visits but must be accompanied by an adult that remains with them throughout the visit.
- Smokers are encouraged to bring nicotine patches or gum, as they can only leave the unit once per shift during a patient’s stay.
