Whether you’re welcoming a baby, managing the transition to menopause, or simply seeking personalized wellness support, a certified nurse midwife (CNMs) is equipped to guide you through all your women’s health needs.
Certified nurse midwives have become integral parts of McLaren Greater Lansing in providing women and families with a comprehensive care model, with two CNMs supporting patients through holistic, evidence-based practices.
“I was drawn to midwifery because the role allows the opportunity to educate, empower, and support women throughout their lifespan,” said Casey Claussen, certified nurse midwife at McLaren Greater Lansing Women’s Health - Okemos. “My favorite part of being a midwife is building trusting relationships with my patients and their families while helping them navigate their health through some of the most impactful moments of their lives.”
Midwives are often most known for supporting childbirth. The birthing process with a midwife can be as natural as the mom-to-be would like, but pain medications can be used. You can also change your mind along the way.
“We focus on helping women have a healthy pregnancy and supporting the process that their body goes through, so we spend a lot of time educating our patients and discussing their needs,” said Sameerah Shareef, CNM at McLaren Greater Lansing North Lansing Women’s Health. “A large part of our support services is to work with our patients with a variety of techniques that help them through the natural process of birth as comfortably as possible.”
They also provide women’s services for gynecologic care, cancer screenings, immunizations, menopause care, sexual health management, sexually transmitted infections, and contraception.
“We help women understand how their body works and ways we can support our bodies in the best possible way for an overall healthy lifestyle,” said Shareef.
