Introducing Your Patient to Proton Therapy
Potential proton therapy candidates may be introduced to this treatment with an initial visit to the McLaren Proton Therapy Center. If distance is an issue, a virtual visit may be an option. Our radiation oncologists and patient navigator can set up a virtual visit to introduce your patient to the benefits of proton therapy. Following that visit, if your patient decides to proceed, we’ll schedule an in-person consultation. Call our patient navigator at (855) MY-PROTON for more information.
Insurance Assistance
Our insurance patient advocate will navigate the process with all carriers, ensuring your patient receives the treatment that’s best for their case.
Collaborative Treatment
During treatment, our radiation oncologists keep referring physicians fully informed—sharing updates and inviting participation in case-review meetings.
Our Expertise
As part of the Karmanos Cancer Institute—one of 73 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.—our advanced technology includes pencil-beam scanning and image-guided proton therapy, designed to treat tumors with extreme precision. Healthy tissue and organs are spared from over 70 percent of unnecessary radiation, potentially reducing side effects and complications.
Cancers Treated by Proton Therapy
Since proton therapy spares healthy tissue, it’s commonly used on solid tumors in sensitive areas where conventional therapy may cause harm or secondary cancers. It’s particularly valuable for pediatric, adolescent and young adult patients.
