2024 Employee Giving Campaign: Creating a Safe and Modern Emergency Department

Nationwide studies show that violence within a hospital emergency department is an area of concern for both the staff and public. Across the country, emergency physicians and nurses express a great deal of concern for their personal safety. McLaren Bay Region wants to ensure a safe work and healthcare environment for all. Being proactive, the 2024 fundraising campaign plans to create a safer and modern emergency department entrance and waiting area.

Our ED entrance will be equipped with weapons scanning equipment, along with our current security personnel. The main entrance vestibule will be modified to accommodate the weapons screening process 24 hours a day. Additionally, security will be relocated to an adjacent location which will have additional viewing capabilities of the video system throughout the hospital. Additional cameras will be placed in the waiting area to reduce blind spots.

The waiting area seating will be increased with the renovation, which includes flooring, wall protection, painting, signage, phone charging stations, and an enclosed check-in station for enhanced security. The overall finishes will align with the McLaren branding standards following Evidence Base Design criteria.
