It means that 24 hours a day, surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, specially trained nurses and other vital personnel provide immediate care rather than on-call care. Vital support services throughout the hospital are also available, such as the blood bank, laboratory, respiratory therapists and imaging services, as well as case managers, clinical social workers, physical therapists and other medical professionals. They are all part of the comprehensive trauma team at McLaren Port Huron trauma.
As an American College of Surgeons Verified Level III Trauma Center, McLaren Port Huron provides:
- 24-hour immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians and the prompt availability of general surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and anesthesiologists
- Transfer agreements for patients requiring a higher level of care at a Level I or Level II trauma center
- Transfer facility for rural and community hospitals who send patients to us for advanced care
- A comprehensive quality performance improvement program
- Ongoing education for nursing and allied health staff and the trauma team
- Prevention efforts and an active outreach program for its referring communities
