McLaren Health Care Names Angie Long its Chief Nursing Officer

McLaren Health Care, the multistate, 12-hospital health care system, has named Angie Long, DNP, MSN/MBA/HC, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, its system-level Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, effective Oct. 6, 2025.

Dr. Long assumes the role made available upon the departure of Jennifer Montgomery, McLaren Health Care’s inaugural CNO.

Dr. Long returns to McLaren after having previously served as CNO at McLaren St. Luke’s, where her leadership led to the hospital’s improved clinical quality, safety outcomes, and operational efficiency. It was also during her initial stint with McLaren that she led the organization’s systemwide nursing council.

In this role, Dr. Long will engage and collaborate with nursing leaders throughout McLaren to recommend, design, and implement initiatives to further advance patient-centered care and drive quality clinical outcomes. She will also provide operational oversight across the spectrum of nursing care at all McLaren hospital and ambulatory settings to unite and align all system sites under a standard of care. She will also lead efforts to form and enhance existing partnerships for training and professional development among McLaren nursing professionals.

“Angie’s clinical and leadership expertise coupled with her strategic, thoughtful approach align with our mission of continuously advancing the level of care our facilities provide,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “Angie’s voice, along with her depth of knowledge and understanding of nursing care, will be instrumental in ensuring our teams providing direct patient care are supported and that our standard of care remains exceptional.”

Most recently serving as CNO and Chief Operating Officer at 350-bed Mercy Health West in Cincinnati, Dr. Long has spent more than half of her 25-plus years of nursing experience in leadership roles, serving first as Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing & Patient Safety Officer in early 2008 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, where she led multiple accreditation surveys and clinical initiatives that earned the hospital multiple quality and safety recognitions, while also increasing Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores. She also held influential consulting roles for key health systems across the United States and supported implementation of technology to assist with facility transfers, advanced monitoring, and critical patient safety systems.

She also maintains a role in academia, serving as a visiting professor and a mentor for BSN students at Chamberlain University in Chicago.

“I am excited to rejoin McLaren and again be part of an organization whose purposeful dedication to delivering compassionate patient care is at the center of every decision they make,” Dr. Long said. “I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues and the many care teams throughout the system to continue to build upon our practice of care, which is already rooted in quality, safety, and empathy.”

Dr. Long earned her BSN nursing degree from Ohio University in Athens, and she continued her education with Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Health Administration degrees from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University.
