Visiting Residents

Application Requirements

Thank you for your interest in completing a rotation at McLaren Flint! We are pleased to participate in your Graduate Medical Education training.

In order to obtain initial approval for a rotation here, a visiting resident application must be submitted. To fill out this application online, you will need to have obtained approval from a member of the McLaren Flint medical staff who agreed to be the supervising physician for the rotation and the start and end dates of the rotation.

Expectations of Visiting Residents

All visiting residents at McLaren Flint must:

  • Successfully complete all steps of the application process in order to receive final approval to start a rotation.
  • Report to the GME Office on 7N on the morning of their first day of rotation for a brief orientation and to obtain any required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Park in the Visitors Lot on the first day of the rotation and then in the Doctors Lot only for the remainder of the rotation.
  • Wear the McLaren-issued ID badge at all times while on duty. This badge must be returned at the end of the rotation.
  • Act in accordance to the McLaren standards of conduct.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security laws for protected health information.
  • Abide by the ACGME work rules including the tracking of these hours as required by their sponsoring institution. Concerns relative to work hours assigned on the rotation at McLaren Flint should be directed to the supervising physician and/or the Director of Medical Education.
  • Utilize the technology systems and computers for professional activities only. Visiting residents will be provided a McLaren active directory ID with computer access to the EMR and other technology systems required of the rotation.
  • Complete medical records in accordance to the hospital and GME policies.
  • Coordinate directly with the supervising physician for completion of any required evaluation forms by their current program. The responsibility to secure any required evaluations or forms lies solely with the visiting resident.
  • Sign out on their last day of the rotation with the GME office on 7N of the hospital and return the ID badge. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete rotation.

Additional expectations may be required based on the type of rotation requested.
