Meet Our Leadership Team

  • Todd Burch, President and CEO
    Todd Burch
    President/CEO
    McLaren Northern Michigan

    Todd Burch joined McLaren Northern Michigan in April 2019 as the President and Chief Executive Officer. He brings more than 16 years of executive leadership experience within the private sector, hospitals and health systems.

    Most recently, Todd served as Regional CEO for an integrated health system serving northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Todd held senior leadership positions in both the public and private sectors of health care, including Chief Operating Officer, President, CEO of a Kansas health care organization as well as founding a health care consulting firm.

    Todd holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.

    He and his wife of 20 years, Niki, along with their children Madeleine, Sydney, Gabriel, and Josie are looking forward to enjoying all of the activities that northern Michigan has to offer.

    Jennifer Woods joined McLaren Northern Michigan in July 1999. During her tenure, she has held increasingly more advanced leadership roles, including Nurse Manager for Ambulatory Care, Endoscopy, PACU, and Radiology Nursing.

    In 2010, Jennifer was named Senior Director of Acute Care Services, and was promoted to Chief Nursing Officer in February 2012. As Chief Nursing Officer, Jennifer oversees all nursing operations for the hospital, guiding all areas of patient care to ensure clinical excellence.

    Jennifer received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Ohio State University and graduated with her Masters of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2011.

    Throughout her career she has been a staff nurse, Team Leader, Clinical Supervisor and Nurse Manager. Her clinical background includes Neurosurgical ICU, Radiology, UroSurgery Clinic and Endoscopy.

    Jennifer is a member of the Senior Executive Team with accountability for Acute Patient Care Services. This includes Staffing/SWAT and Transport, Behavioral Services, Woman & Children's, Emergency Department, Renal, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiovascular Unit, Medical/Surgical Unit, Orthopaedics, Neurology & Urology, and Oncology.

    Andrew McDonagh, MD, FHM, FACP

    Dr. McDonagh received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1987 and has maintained Board Certification in Internal Medicine since 1990. Early in his professional career, Dr. McDonagh practiced primary care medicine in rural communities in Montana, Maine, and New Hampshire.

    For the past 23 years, Dr. McDonagh practiced in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he established the first independent clinical practice solely dedicated to hospital medicine in the state. In 2008, Dr. McDonagh joined Aurora Health Care as Medical Director of Hospital Medicine and, in 2013, assumed the position of Chief Medical Officer at Aurora West Allis Medical Center in Milwaukee.

    Dr. McDonagh comes to McLaren Northern Michigan with over 23 years of proven physician leadership experience. As a physician executive, his focus has been on enhancing patient safety and clinical quality through improving efficiency of care, encouraging care delivery innovation, and most importantly, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • David Bellamy

    Chief Financial Officer

    David Bellamy is the Chief Financial Officer at McLaren Northern Michigan, responsible for accounting, financial reporting, revenue cycle, operating and capital budgeting, and decision support. He is a certified public accountant with a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University with nearly 30 years of experience in the health care arena.

    Prior to joining McLaren Northern Michigan, David was a sole practitioner consultant to a leading health system, developing financial models, assisting with managed contracting and overseeing change management. He spent over ten years at Ernst & Young, and later joined Deloitte & Touche, where he was admitted as a Partner.

    David sits on the Board of Directors of Northern Health Plan, Alcona Citizens for Health, and is President of Michigan Ballet Academy. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Medical Group Management Association, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

    As the Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation, Patrick Schulte provides the overall philanthropic strategic direction, leadership, and management of the Foundation.

    With over 25 years of experience in professional fundraising for non-profit entities, Patrick has been a leader of philanthropy representing social services, education, and health care. Before joining McLaren Northern Michigan, Patrick held the position of Chief Development Officer for the Providence Health Foundation of St. John Providence | Ascension in Southeast Michigan.

    Patrick holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from Michigan State University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He serves as the Vice President of the Michigan Association of Healthcare Philanthropy.

    Laura has been with McLaren Home Care & Hospice (formerly VitalCare) since 1991, previously working at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, and House Supervision. Laura began her career in both the home health and hospice divisions, later overseeing Private Duty Nursing and Clinical Records departments. In 1995, Laura was instrumental in opening the Cheboygan Hospice House. In 1997, Hospice of the Sunrise Shore-Alpena was acquired and Laura moved that program from a volunteer hospice to a fully Medicare-certified hospice program. In 2010, when Hospice of Little Traverse Bay joined McLaren Home Care & Hospice, Laura standardized all three hospices to create a unified program for northern Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula. When promoted to Senior Director, Laura assumed responsibilities for the Adult Day Center, an out-patient Palliative Care program, and the Billing department.

    Laura holds a Masters Degree in Nursing and a National Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse Administration. Laura is currently enrolled in the Madonna School of Nursing pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

    Laura is a former Board member of Cheboygan Area Schools and the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She currently is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Michigan Homecare and Hospice Organization, and sits on the Board of Directors for Lutheran Family Services.

    Vice President Operations

    As Vice President of Operations, Shari Schult is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations for multiple service lines and physician practices including Pharmacy, Lab, Neurosciences, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Diabetic and Nutrition Center, Radiology, and all clinical operations for the McLaren Northern Michigan Cheboygan Campus.

    Shari has provided the leadership necessary for a full and successful integration of the Cheboygan Campus. Overseeing all aspects of operations, Shari is responsible for the alignment of business and clinical processes in support of our Mission, which includes executive oversight of the Level II Trauma program. Shari is also leading our facilities planning and development teams from concept through execution as we renovate, modernize, and build for the future.

    Shari is a Registered Nurse, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, and a Master’s degree in Nursing specializing in leadership and management from Walden University.

    Susan Reed joined McLaren Northern Michigan in 2006, fulfilling the roles of Physician Liaison, Marketing Manager, Director of Marketing & Communications, and Senior Director, Planning & Marketing. She was integral to the development of the McLaren Northern Michigan 7-year Transformational Growth Plan, and focuses on promoting regional strategic growth and physician recruitment/retention initiatives.

    Susan oversees all hospital and affiliate Marketing and Advertising, internal and external Communications, Physician Recruitment and Retention, Business and Referral Development, Public Relations, Community Health, Strategic Planning, and Volunteer and Hospitality Services.

    With a twenty-plus year background in health care, government contracting, and private business, Susan's clients have included The Washington Post, the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon, the Dow Chemical Company, and a large Michigan health care system.

    Susan earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, and a Certificate in Strategic Planning from the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development. She is an instructor with the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, and the National Ski Patrol.

    Derek Peters joined McLaren Northern Michigan in April 2018. Over the past 10 years, Peters has progressed in his career through increasingly more responsible human resources roles with a focus on employee relations. Prior to joining McLaren Northern Michigan, Peters served as the Human Resources Director for McLaren Lapeer Region and McLaren Homecare Group for 2 and a half years. Peters served in various Human Resources roles at McLaren Greater Lansing for nearly 7 years. These experiences gave him perspective on the challenges and opportunities that a large health care system faces through the lens of several, various-sized subsidiaries. Peters holds a Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. Peters is a licensed attorney through the State Bar of Michigan.

  • Brad Rider

    McLaren Medical Group Director of Operations

    As the McLaren Medical Group Director of Operations – Northern Region, Brad Rider oversees McLaren physician practices throughout northern Michigan regarding continuity of operations, provider recruitment, customer service, and strategic growth.

    With over twenty years of experience in finance and administration, Brad began his career in commercial banking, attaining the level of vice president. He transitioned to health care as Chief Executive Officer of Bay Street Orthopaedics in Petoskey, Michigan, managing all aspects of operations for a 7 plus surgeon practice. He then joined the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, holding the position of Chief Financial Officer, and later served as the Agency's Deputy Health Officer as well as the Health Officer for District Health Department #4.

    Brad holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Financial Administration from Michigan State University, and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in management and organizational behavior from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

    Senior Director of Performance Improvement

    As Senior Director of Performance Improvement, Kathy Beyer is the Compliance and Privacy Officer at McLaren Northern Michigan, responsible for compliance, privacy and security, performance improvement, and infection prevention. With over 30 years of health care experience, Kathy is skilled at driving strategic operational change to achieve quality and efficiency results.

    Starting as a Medical Technologist with then Northern Michigan Hospital, Kathy has worked with McLaren Northern Michigan for most of her career. She assumed increasingly greater positions of leadership and responsibility, including Manager of Laboratory Services, Manager of Patient Access, and Manager, Director, and then Seni Senior Director of Revenue Cycle. Most recently, Kathy served as the McLaren Health Care Corporate Director of Revenue Cycle.

    Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Northern Michigan University, and is active with the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
